Doug Hylan yhdistää onnistuneesti amerikkalaisen rikkaan työveneperinteen moderniin vaneri-epoksi konstruktioon. Point Comfort 18 pohjautuu Cheasapeak-lahdella kehittyneiden työveneiden linjoihin. Lahti on tunnettu terävästä aallokostaan ja työveneiltä vaadittiin hyvää vakavuutta ja pehmeää kulkua.

Vaatimus täyttyi Cheasapeak Deadrise -nimellä tunnetulla runkotyypillä, jossa etuosasta hyvin terävä keula taittuu hiljalleen maltillisempaan V-pohjaan veneen keski- ja peräosissa. Point Comfort kulkeekin kevyesti ja pehmeästi vaatimattomalla koneteholla. Vene on parhaimmillaan nopeuksissa, jotka ovat liukuville veneille usein hankalia eli 7-12 solmun vauhdissa. Veneen trimmin kanssa tulee olla huolellinen, jotta runko toimisi suunnitellusti, aallokkoa tehokkaasti halkoen.

Vene on suunniteltu suhteellisen alhaisille nopeuksille ja moottoritehoille. 20 hevosvoiman moottori riittää kuljettamaan 2-4 henkeä 10-14 solmun nopeudella, pehmeästi, ekonomisesti ja tyylillä.

With Point Comfort 18, the designer Doug Hylan skillfully combined the traditional New England workboat esthetics with modern epoxy-plywood construction. The boat has it’s roots in the working boats of Cheasapeake bay, where a distinctive bottom shape, called the Cheasapeake deadrise, has evolved to meet the challenging conditions, The sharp bow gradually turns into more flat shape at the stern, resulting in an easily driven, but soft riding hull. The boat is at its best in speed range of 7-12 knots, a range which is often unsuitable for a modern deep V-bottom boat.

With a modest 20 horsepower outboard the boat will carry you and your load at a comfortable speed, with style and ease.
